Jefferson Parish Library is creating a new Marketing & Development Office to improve the scope and quality of library programs and events, more effectively publicize all the great things happening every day at Jefferson Parish Library, and increase fundraising efforts at the library.

The Marketing & Development Office will be a seven-person team responsible for fostering a relationship with Jefferson Parish business owners, community leaders, and stakeholders to identify where the library and the community can work together to improve library services and the quality of life in the parish.

Most of our residents know there is a public library system in Jefferson Parish. But many of them don’t realize how many resources and services it provides. The library helps small businesses earn more money. It helps children excel in school. The library has books and online databases which help people deal with medical issues, manage personal finances, learn a variety of languages, and find jobs. Library users can download audiobooks to MP3 players and eBooks to iPhones from home, and borrow hundreds of DVD titles. This new office will make the library and these services more visible in the community. It will also enable the library to augment it revenues.

The library adopted a master facilities plan this year which calls for more than doubling its floor space over the next thirty years. The most realistic way of achieving that ambitious goal is to obtain grants and financial assistance from sources other than local property taxes.

The new office will consist of two wings under a Marketing & Development Administrator. One wing will deal with raising money for the library through donations, fundraising events, and public and private grants (Development Director, Grant Writer, and a Typist III). Another will focus on informing the public of library services and scheduling events at the library for adult library users (Information Specialist, Webmaster, and Adult Programming Manager).
